Editor's review
The application can create unlimited covers for your e-book, software box with two or three sides, CD and DVD boxes. eCover Engineer`s built in image editor and almost 100 free templates can be used to create a range of designs.
Pros: Covers for eBooks, software package boxes or the CD/DVD boxes need graphics design for the front and back covers and the spine. eCover Engineer helps create such designs easily using its own image editor and 100 odd templates from its library.
Sophisticated features of 3D rendering of the box design is provided. This sophistication includes camera movement, lighting, the floor on which the box is displayed and so on. That would be useful if the purpose was a computer aided design of the box. Even then it would be a overkill for something as mundane as a cardboard box development.
Cons: Two sets of functionality seem to be mixed up here. One is the ability to design the front and back cover of the e-book or CD/DVD box. That really is a graphic design exercise. This seems to be the primary positioning of the product. However there are quite a few 3D real-time manipulation features provided for the program that in the given context just allows to view the design. Functionality provided are impressive in its real-time rendering capability. But really does not add much value as far as the graphics design is concerned. All that sophisticated lighting and object turn around feels unfocused.
The user interaction tools do not have the necessary image manipulation or the graphical tools that help create a satisfactory graphic design.
Overall, the application does not have enough graphic design tools while the 3D viewing and manipulation, despite being real-time, does not add value to the main purpose of the application. Overall this application is at 2 star level.
